It’s no secret that knitting has become my life in the last twelve years. You don’t believe me? Just as my family, they’ll tell you. Knitting is not only pretty and gives me something to do but it also improves my mental health and overall mood. I’m a true believer that more people should knit, crochet, sew or needlepoint. Here is why I live knitting and why it benefits me.

1. I find knitting so satisfying because I created something from my two hands and a piece of string. Amazing!
2. Did you know that knitting started in the eleventh century? It is wicked crazy to think knitting has been around almost as long as human beings.
3. I can make anything my imagination can think of and make it a tangible item.
4. It has been proven that knitting can help reduce your stress level.
5. I can take my knitting basically anywhere I want to go. In the car, visiting friends and family, the movies and the doctors’ office.
6. Knitting, crocheting anything crafty gives you a community of people who have the same hobby.
7. I can knit small things or large things.
8. It is no secret that getting older is rough, knitting can slow down cognitive decline. I find this fact quite relieving because I have Alzheimer’s disease in my history.
9. I knit everything from stuffed animals to clothing and knowing that fills my heart with love.
10. Did you know knitting (any hands-on craft) boosts brain power? Who does not love that?
11. I use knitting to destress when there is stress from an outside source.
12. Do you have trouble sleeping? Knitting can help with that too.
13. My family has learned the perks of having a knitter in the family.
14. Knitting helps reduce anxiety.
15. Knitting has become my lifestyle.
16. Knitting can be a tool to manage your mental health.
17. Sir Patrick Stewart knits in his spare time.
18. Phyllis Latour Doyle, a British secret agent used knitting to write messages in morse code during WWII.
19. Knitting an hour a day keeps the arthritis away.
20. You can knit as a donation.
21. Knitting lowers your blood pressure.
22. Lastly, knitting makes you happy. That is reason enough to pick up knitting if you ask me.
If you could not tell already, I find knitting and crafting in general a super power.
